Hi, I’m Justin Metras. I like to think of myself as a lighting designer, but not in the traditional sense. My work has always been deeply integrated with technology, blending innovation with illumination to create experiences that go beyond light alone. Rather than designing fixtures or layouts in the conventional way, I focus on using technology to enhance and transform light. Giving people something unexpected, immersive, and unlike anything they’ve seen before.
My products and installations have been seen around the globe; from fashion and performance to architecture and experiential spaces. Each project is an opportunity to merge creativity and technology in ways that surprise, inspire, and connect with people.
Outside of design, I’m often on the move; whether it’s playing soccer, catching waves, or exploring new places. Those passions fuel my design approach, where movement, rhythm, and flow influence how I think about lighting.

Lights continue to create, enhance, and shape the way retailers provide a unique experience in their stores. Finding unique ways to tell stories through light has been fun, challenging and immensely rewarding.

Some projects that come across my desk are using technologies nearly a century old, but still need ongoing support. I continuously create solutions providing updated technology to old world problems.
Military & Government
Lighting plays a major role in Defense, Emergency Services, Police, Fire, Traffic and more. One of the unique skillsets I possess is being able to produce creative products and solutions to challenging problems.
Consulting
Many global construction projects require solutions that few people possess. Having been in the lighting industry for 20+ years, I have seen thousands of installations and projects come across my desk and provided many ideas to implement.
Wearables & Smart Technologies
My biggest passion project I have been enhancing over the past decade is integrating wearable lighting technologies into practical applications. I truly believe over the next decade, lighting will be an integral part in many clothing applications.
